Kapalama Elementary Meal Account Policy
BREAKFAST
  • Breakfast is served every morning from 7:15 to 7:50 a.m. in the Cafeteria.
  • Students enter the serving area, pick up their meal card, pick up their meal, and give their meal card to the Meal Count Assistant to scan.

MEAL COST

  • Breakfast – $1.10 (30¢ for students qualifying for reduced meal cost), $2.40 for a second breakfast.
  • Lunch - $2.50 (40¢ for students qualifying for reduced meal cost)
  • Milk – the purchase of milk is $0.75.

ID CARD

  • Each student will be issued an identification card to be used for meals.
  • Replacement cards will cost $1.00 after the 3rd replacement.
  • ID cards remain the property of Kapalama Elementary School and will be confiscated if they are defaced in any way, including the placement of stickers, pen marks, and if cut or tampered with. Students are responsible for the cost after the 3rd replacement.

MEAL ACCOUNT

  • Deposits into meal accounts can be made at the Office from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Deposits made before 10:30 a.m. will be posted to the meal account before lunch. All other deposits will be posted the next school day.
  • Check payments should be made payable to “Kapalama Elementary School.”  The Department of Education policy charges $25.00 for checks returned due to insufficient funds or closed accounts. If this occurs, payment must be made by cash for the amount of the check AND the $25.00 charge.

BALANCE NOTICES AND LOANS
  • You will be informed if your child’s account balance is less than the cost of 7 meals.
  • Students with insufficient funds in their account will be reminded by the Office to put more money into their account.
  • Money should be deposited into student’s account as soon as possible. 

FREE/REDUCED MEAL APPLICATIONS
  • Students' lunch status from last school year is valid for 30 operating school days.
  • Parents will need to complete a free/reduced meal application or go online to complete the application (ezmealapp.com) as soon as possible for their child to qualify for EACH new school year.
  • If an application form is not submitted within the 30 days, the student's meal status will be changed to pay the full cost of the meal.

To apply online, please register on the website for a SchoolCafe account FIRST.  See instructions below.

Please do not submit a paper application if an online application is submitted. 

SchoolCafe Account
SchoolCafe (See Memo for more information) provides a secure online system to parents to:
  • Make online payments (service fee of 5% of the deposit amount for online payments) 
  • Monitor account balances and set low balance alerts 
  • Monitor child’s buying history 
  • Apply for FREE/REDUCED price meal benefits 

There is no cost to set up, monitor child’s account, and apply for meal benefits.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR SCHOOLCAFE:
  1. Go to the SchoolCafe website by clicking on the following link: hionlineapps.primeroedge.com
  2. Click on [Register] or [Create An Account] 
  3. Select [I’m registering as a parent] – click on [Next] 
  4. School District – Type [Hawaii] 
  5. Select [HI-HAWAII-DOE] – click on [Next] 
  6. Enter your FIRST NAME, LAST NAME, CONTACT INFORMATION – click on [Next] 
  7. Set up username and password 
  8. Select and answer security questions – click on [Next] 
  9. Add your Student – Enter your child’s STUDENT ID# and select SCHOOL.  Your child's student ID# can be found on the flyer given to you at back to school night or your child on the first day of school.

HOW TO SUBMIT FREE AND REDUCE PRICE MEAL APPLICATION:
  1. Sign in to SCHOOLCAFE: https://www.schoolcafe.com/ 
  2. Click on [Apply] under Eligibility Benefits module 
  3. Follow the instructions and submit the application 
    • Non-DOE (charter, private, or college) students should be listed in the household 
  4. Once application is submitted, your application number will appear 
  5. Please keep the application number as a reference to inquire about your application 
  6. Processing may take up to 10 working days. The school will send home a RESULTS LETTER with your child.
