Kapalama Elementary is excited to announce that we are one of the public schools in the state to have a public Prekindergarten program on our campus. The program is funded through the State of Hawaii's Executive Office on Early Learning.  The Prekindergarten class is able to provide high-quality learning experiences for students in the year prior to Kindergarten eligibility. Eligibility Requirements:  

Our program serves 3- and 4-year-old children who are in the two years prior to kindergarten entry. Children must be born on or between August 1, 2020 – July 31, 2022.

Online and Paper Applications

Online and paper applications will be accepted beginning on March 3, 2025 at 8:00 am.

Online applications are highly recommended (processed faster) at earlylearning.ehawaii.gov.  If no access to computer, Kapalama will provide a hard copy application at our school office.

Applicants will be notified of acceptance or denial. Acceptance letters will instruct parents/legal guardians to enroll their child at the school office. Required school enrollment forms must be completed and submitted prior to the child’s first day of attendance.

Priority for Enrollment: 

Priority is provided for children whose situations include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following: 

• Children who are eligible for special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and require general education placement.

• Children in foster care.

• Children who are experiencing homelessness or unstable housing.

• Children who are dual or multi-language learners.

• Children whose family's income is no more than 300% of the federal poverty level.

• Children who are experiencing at-risk situations which may impact their development and learning.
